What I Wore To My First NYC Blogger Meetup!

What I Wore To My First NYC Blogger Meetup!

A few weeks ago, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and went to my very first Blogger meet up here in NYC. I scoured the internet/Instagram/Facebook, etc to find the best options of blogger groups to join because I found that there wasn’t as many as I thought (or maybe I’m just not that good at researching??). Considering there is probably several thousand fashion bloggers in Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs, I had trouble finding a good one. I did however, stumble upon the Blogger Union @thebloggerunion (the NYC chapter is @thenycbloggers) that has chapters all over the US to help connect and educate all of us budding blogger ladies, no matter what type of blog you write. Keep on reading to hear about my experience and what I wore!

To start, I was incredibly tired this morning when I woke up so I have to say, my outfit was not my best work. But it was comfortable and I think it was still effortlessly stylish which is what I’m going for anyway. I knew when I woke up that I wanted to wear these pretty orange boots so I decided to style the rest of my look around them. I know that I love orange paired with brown, so I thought this pretty chocolate brown sweater would give me my desired look while still keeping me warm and comfy. I also knew I loved the way straight leg jeans look with boots but I hate the cropped ones, I thought I’d wear my long legged black straight leg jeans too. I was pretty satisfied with this look! It was about 50 degrees this day, so I didn’t NEED to wear this teddy coat, but I did anyway for ~fashun~ .

Now I have to be honest, I am not really the kind of person who likes to be in new social settings. I can be really shy and uncomfortable and awkward when I’m in new social settings, unless I meet someone who is the exact opposite and makes me feel more comfortable. All morning, I couldn’t decide if I should actually go to this event and was making all kinds of excuses about why I shouldn’t go. But after getting out of bed and really thinking about it, I knew that going to this event to listen to the speakers and network would be an invaluable experience if I made it one. So I picked myself up, got ready and hopped on the train to Manhattan.

The event started with us introducing ourselves a little bit while the speakers got settled and I was feeling nervous but decided to speak up and introduce my self. I mentioned my name and my blog and what it was about, but I feel like it came out really weird and awkward but it’s fine. Then we jumped right into the panel portion of the meeting. The speakers shared information about how to grow on Instagram ever since this new algorithm came around back in June 2019 (don’t quote me on this). I personally think they gave a lot of information that I knew just from researching the algorithm, but it was interesting to hear some other ideas that worked for them. Some of the girls thought one thing worked better than another and they seemed to have some differing opinions, but the overall idea was the same I suppose. They mentioned the importance of using hashtags, being consistent about when and how often you post, being consistent with engaging with your audience and even how to go about negotiating your first few brand deals. Hearing this information from the people who live this and do it every day felt like reassurance that A) it’s possible to still “make it” in this fashion blogging industry and B) it’s a ton of work but if you love it and are willing to put the work it, you can definitely see success here.

As far as first experiences go, I think this was one of the better ones. I feel like I got some good information from people who are knowledgeable about this industry. I also feel like I met some really nice girls who are willing to be supportive of other growing bloggers. One of the reasons why I did this is because I’m looking to move in the next few months and I want to be able to make some friends around here who have similar interests as me. I think by going to these events, I have such a better chance at finding some really good girl friends who love the same things I love. Overall, this was a great experience and I am so looking forward to going to the next event!

What To Wear When You’re Over Winter Weather

What To Wear When You’re Over Winter Weather

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been over dressing for winter for about 3 weeks now. I went to Arizona early in February and the beautiful warm weather really got me dreading the wintery weather in New York. So after coming back from that trip, I was inspired to start prepping for spring and dressing in a way that was reflective of spring, without feeling cold in the 30 degree weather. Keep on reading to see what I came up with! I’ll also make sure to link as many items as possible below!

Outfit #1

I got this pretty ruffled wrap dress from Target a few years ago and one of my favorite parts about this dress is the skirt! So in order to make this outfit a little bit more wintery, I decided to layer this plain black sweater from Urban Outfitters over top. This is one of my favorite ways to style my spring/summer dresses for the winter so that you don’t necessarily have to put them away for the season (especially if you practice minimalism). I paired it with my favorite Sam Edelman Hia boots and thought it was a perfect look. The best part about this look is that throwing a nice coat over top will only elevate this look, instead of hiding it!

Outfit #2

You guys know I’ve been obsessed with these half zip sweaters all winter, so I’m making sure to transition them into the spring time too. I got this half zip sweater from Abercrombie and it even comes in 2 colors and all the sizes are still available! I threw a white turtleneck under for some extra warmth and paired that with my tan slouchy jeans from Zara. I’m sure you saw this coming, but I paired my favorite brown loafers from Target and called it a day for this outfit. It’s a perfect casual Friday outfit if you ask me!

Outfit #3

Back in the early fall, I shared these fun distressed dad jeans from Topshop and you all were obsessed with them. These are honestly some of my favorite jeans because the fit is really comfy. I had to put them away for the really cold winter weather, but as I’m willing it to be spring soon, I thought I’d dig them out of storage. I’m loving blue for spring and I especially love it with denim, so I added this V-neck cardigan from Target and decided to throw this tan Free People jacket that I got a few years ago over top. For shoes, I went with my tried and true tan suede Jeffrey Campbell boots. This outfit gives me so many Danielle Bernstein vibes!

Outfit #4

For this last outfit, I went with a similar color scheme because I really love blue that much for this coming season. I got these really comfy tanks from Target recently (bought it in almost every color) and thought it would be so cute to wear with some distressed mom jeans from Topshop. In the summer, this is definitely going to be a go-to outfit! But since it’s technically still winter, I decided to add a navy cardigan from Target over top for some added warmth and the layered look. Of course, I finished off my look with my favorite loafers from Target. They were honestly the best purchase I’ve made this past year!
