What I Wore This Week: 2/17/20 – 2/21/20

We are off to start another week and my goodness, it’s off to a rough start. It’s a holiday week this time and hopefully that makes it feel a little bit better, but we shall see. Right now, it’s a weird time where I’m totally over winter and the cold, but it’s just not anywhere near being warm yet. All I want is to go on a nice warm vacation and relax on the beach for a few days to recharge. It’s not really that I’m feeling burnt out or anything, but maybe just uninspired. I usually love dressing for the cold and I feel like that inspiration can take me well into the spring, but this year feels different. I’m sort of slowing down on my creativity after about 2-3 months of nonstop creative thinking. That’s why I’m thinking a nice warm vacation would come in handy, but unfortunately, I don’t think there’s really a chance for that until June. So let’s wait and see I guess! As always, I linked as much as possible in the caption of each photo, as long as the exact item or something similar is available!

Monday

So it’s President’s Day today, which apparently everyone and their mom has off for. I truly thought it was just a school holiday and didn’t realize corporate America also decided to give you time off for it. Anyway, so this morning I thought I was going to have a super easy commute but BOY, WAS I WRONG. On the LIRR, I couldn’t take my normal train because they are running on the weekend schedule for the holiday which means it stopped at EVERY SINGLE STOP instead of being an express train and I had to wait out in the cold for an extra 10 minutes before the train came. That should have told me it was going to be a rough day, but I just kept on pushing thinking everything would be fine. Then I got to Penn Station, swiped my Metrocard and found out that my subway is also not running today because they are on a weekend schedule. So I had to get out of the subway, walk one block over and go back down to a different subway, paying double the subway fare of course. Turns out, I got on the wrong train and so I had to get off about 10 blocks from where I originally intended to get off so I could stop at Fedex on my way to work. Luckily, Fedex was open which is the best part of this story honestly. After I stopped there, I went to Starbucks to get my coffee and ended up spilling it all down the front of my coat. I just about cried for the day I was having, and it wasn’t even 9:00am yet. I hope you’re having a better day than I am. Here’s a picture of my outfit.

Tuesday

I know at the beginning of this post that I said I’m not feeling burnt out, but I am feeling something. I’m just exhausted all the time and I think it’s a combination of traveling, commuting 3 hours a day, and trying to balance this blog and work and a social life. I was thinking today about how I never take the stairs up from the subway because I know that I am so exhausted by the end of it because I have zero stamina after about 6 months of not going to the gym because I just can’t prioritize it into the rest of my schedule. As we inch closer to the spring and the idea of moving starts to look more like a reality, I’m realizing just how tiring my current schedule is and it feels like I’m slowing down as I get closer to the light at the end of the tunnel. And it’s not so much out of nerves or fear or anxiety, it’s just pure exhaustion. It’s just something I’ll need to be more conscious of over the next few months and to make sure that I’m giving myself personal care and breaks when I need them.

Wednesday

One thing I want to say is that I was really into my outfit today. It was so incredibly comfortable and I was so happy to wear it. The next thing is that I was incredibly tired today. I made the mistake of going to bed at 12:00 am last night and I woke up to my normal 5:30 am alarm. Needless to say, it was a rough day for me. I woke up feeling like I didn’t really want to talk to anyone, so I just buckled down and focused on some work. I didn’t check my phone or anything either, I literally just did some work and it was good. I felt productive even though I was tired and I think I really needed the break from social interaction to focus. Later in the day, I had some errands to run and I had a ton of work to do, but I just wasn’t really in the mood to keep working so once I got home, I made dinner and watched a little bit of the Democratic debate and then got ready to go to bed. It was a day that could have been a really bad one, but I just didn’t feel like having a bad day and it ended up being pretty okay.

Thursday

So today, I was feeling tired and had a lot of anxiety running through my body. I had something going on today that made me overthink and doubt myself and it was such an interesting experience. I was feeling really down on myself and thinking that I wasn’t good enough but once it was all over, I realized that I was making it a million times worse than it was! It actually went really well and I had done an excellent job after all. It’s such a crazy thing to be self-doubting and not believe in ourselves. It just feels so silly after the fact. It made me realize that I’m really hard on myself and I need to realize that I’m good at things and I deserve good things. I also realized that I need to be patient and more positive when things get hard. Having a negative attitude made my situation yesterday seem so bad when it was really very good. My negative attitude had been causing me a lot more stress and hardship than I really need and I need to refocus on what my goal is. It’s nearly impossible to reach your goals when you have a negative outlook and yesterday was a big realization of that for me.

Friday

Oh boy it;s Friday! Yesterday, I thought today was going to be Thursday, so I’m extra excited that it’s Friday. It’s been a long week, and honestly it’ll be a long weekend too but I’m feeling good today and hoping that will carry me through the rest of the weekend. Today should be pretty light and easy! It’s super cold so I wanted to dress comfortable today, but I also have a party to go to after work tonight for a friend’s birthday (but I still decided sneakers was the way to go). Tomorrow, I’m super excited about finally getting back to shooting some photos (that I still haven’t planned out yet, oops) and my first blogger meet up! I have had it on my mind for s few months now that I wanted to find some groups of bloggers in NYC to meet up with for networking and to build connections, share tips, etc. I found a few groups back in December that I wanted to try out but the timing didn’t work out for me for a while. This weekend I’m finally getting to go to my first one and I couldn’t be more excited or nervous. I get nervous about new social situations, but I think the benefit will make it worth it. I can’t wait to come home with some new tips and tricks on improving my social media presence after the panel they are having!

What I Wore This Week: 2/10/20 – 2/14/20

Hello everyone! Sorry this one is super short and there’s not a ton of links because literally nothing I wore is available anymore! It’s been an absolutely insane week with traveling and Valentine’s day. I’m finally feeling like myself again and ready to take on this week! I had a wonderful time in Arizona and coming back to NY, made me feel ready for spring time. I’m hoping this weekend that I’ll get to finally start planning my spring wardrobe and planning my spring content. How exciting! Keep on reading to see what I did this past week and don’t worry, I’ll get back to regular content next week I promise!

I pre-shot the first 2 outfits in this post because I was still in Arizona for work and I just knew I’d forget to shoot them in the morning. So here’s two more work outfits before we get back to our regular outfits on Thursday! These links below are affiliate links so the retailers may pay me a commission for any purchases made via the links!

Thursday

I had off on Wednesday so I didn’t get dressed or do anything so here’s Thursday for you! I was back at work on Thursday and feeling tired but good. I think the stress of finishing up this huge program did actually get to me before hand because I was MISERABLE. I feel better now and not to be negative, but I’m trying to keep in mind that this may be a temporary feeling. Anyway, I’m ready to get back into things at work, starting on our next program and finally getting my personal life back in order. I have tons of comments and work to catch up on which I’m excited about! Andrew and I also booked a little mini trip this weekend, so that’s something to look forward. Overall, today was really good but I’m just feeling tired and a little stressed about not quite being back in my routine yet. I probably won’t get back into my routine this weekend, but hopefully I can at least catch up on a few things!

Sweater: Something Navy / Pants: Zara / Shoes: Target (similar)

Friday

It’s Friday, but for me it feels like Wednesday or something after having a busy week! It’s also Valentine’s Day which is fun! Tonight, Andrew is being the sweetest man ever and making me a yummy dinner and I’m so excited to see what he makes! I’m supplying the wine, of course. I also get to leave work early today, which was a nice little surprise also. I feel like I have a ton of stuff to do when I get home, like pack and prep for the weekend. I feel unprepared because of this very last minute trip (we booked it on Monday or Tuesday this week!) so I need to get focused on that when I get home. But otherwise, I’m just trying to enjoy a really easy day and great weekend with my sweet man. Let me know in the comments what you did for V-day!

What I Wore This Week: 2/3/20 – 2/9/20

I had a really awful week last week so I woke up on Monday of this week and set the intention to make this a good week. I spent a lot of last week feeling really frustrated, sad, upset, and angry with how things were in certain aspects of my life and it was really putting a lot of strain on my relationships. After taking some time to talk it out on Sunday night, I decided to make the best of this busy week. So keep on reading to see what I did, what I wore, and how I was feeling this week. Don’t forget, that I linked as many items as possible for you in the photo captions!

Monday

I woke up today, saying that I would make today a great day. Last night, I cried to my boyfriend because I was feeling like this might possibly be the week that really broke me down after how frustrated I’ve been feeling. He talked to me about how I can’t let the one thing that’s frustrating me the most ruin all the other parts of my life and make them sour. I have to make sure that I’m enjoying the good parts even more to make up for that one bad part. And he’s right. I spent all last week being upset about all the parts of my life, when I should have been happy that only one part of my life sucked and the rest were really wonderful (despite what I was telling myself). So my intention for this week is to have a good week, no matter what. Monday was off to a rocky start honestly, when someone was really rude to me out of no where though. I have never been more sensitive than I have in the last few weeks and this comment sent me over the edge so I went to the bathroom and I cried about it. I was upset for a while honestly, but then I remembered that this was going to be a good week no matter what and I was going to do everything I could to keep it that way. And that helped after a while. It’s really tough to pull myself out of those bad moods, so I’m proud of myself for sticking with my intention and trying to stay positive. I’m hoping and praying that I can stay strong through the rest of this week too.

Tuesday

Tuesday started out pretty tough for me again, but I am hoping by the afternoon things will start to turn around. It has been a really rough year so far with a ton of stressors and I am trying my hardest not to let it get to me. I’m trying to make sure I’m focusing on what is important, being productive, and staying positive. I need help sometimes to do these things, but we’re getting there. Today I’m thankful for a short(ish) week, for having time to relax last night to get some work done and watch the Bachelor, and for getting some alone time in during the day. I think maybe it’s going to be time to take a break soon where I just completely unplug and decompress, though. I would love to take a mini vacation soon because I find that taking little trips is a great way for me to reset and get back to feeling creative. I also started reading an old book for the second time last night. It’s a book that I first read when I was getting ready to graduate college and I was feeling really lost and unsure of what the future holds. I decided to start reading it again because I’m feeling sort of the same way, but instead of being in college, I’m 25 years old and trying to take the next steps in my life/career/relationships. I’m hoping this time around, I’ll find some new value in the information written in those pages and it can give me a new perspective on how to get through this frustrating time in my life. I used to do book reviews every month when I first started blogging and stopped a few months ago because I stopped reading, honestly. Would you like me to start those again? There’s a few books that I reviewed on here already but am considering re-reading to get a new perspective. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Wednesday

Today was an incredibly hectic day with tons of last minute things to do before I head off to Arizona on Thursday. It was hectic, but good. Today was the first day in over a week that I didn’t feel any signs of anger, frustration, or sadness. I may have been too busy to actually feel any of those things, but I’m definitely not complaining. I would say it was an overall good day and I feel really good about going on this trip tomorrow because today was not frustrating. Once I got all my errands done, I had some leftover pasta from my lunch earlier that was incredible and I finished up packing and showered and painted my nails and wrote this blog post. It still feels like there’s tons to do, but travel always makes me think I’m forgetting something. I’m looking forward to doing some reading on the plane, maybe getting some work done also, or honestly probably just sleeping! I’m also trying to prep as much content as I possibly can before I leave to reduce some of that stress as well. It’s a lot of work to post content and be active on social media to promote it and engage with everyone, so planning everything out has been helpful but it doesn’t really take away much of the actual work I have to do. Anyway, that’s all for now! Next time, we chat on this series I’ll be telling you all about my trip to AZ!

What I Wore This Week: 1/27/20 – 1/31/20

This week should be fairly uneventful now that the month of January is coming to a close. It’s been a surprisingly busy month and I’m ready for a break to relax and do nothing. So far, I don’t have much planned this week which will probably make this week super boring, but hey it’s better than feeling overwhelmed. This week is starting out really slow so stay tuned to see how it goes! As usual, I will link as many items in the photo captions as I can as long as they are available or there is something similar! I also use affiliate links so the retailer may pay me a commission for any purchases made via the links below at no additional cost to you!

Monday

I woke up feeling pretty good today, for a Monday I mean, and ready to take on the coming week. The next few weeks will be busy with traveling so I’m trying to relax as much as I can this week. Honestly, Monday was off to a pretty slow start with not a whole lot going on so it made me feel really tired throughout the day even with a Nitro Cold Brew from Starbucks. I shot a ton of photos over the weekend so I spent some time editing those, writing up blogs in preparation for traveling over the next two weeks and catching up on Instagram comments. I’m also looking forward to watching the Bachelor while it’s actually airing instead of a week later since I’m finally caught up! Overall, it was a really slow day, but it’s a nice break for what has been a crazy month so far.

Tuesday

So Tuesday was incredibly busy for me. I had to work in the other office for work today, which was great because I got to sleep in but I had to drive to work which made me feel so sleepy. I’m just not used to having to use that much brain power in the morning anymore. We’re in the last week of our prep before going to a huge meeting next week (this week when you’re reading this) so there’s tons of last minute things to pack and ship which kept me busy all day and even a little bit after hours. This was actually very frustrating for me because Tuesday is an important day for me to be active on social media because I post new blogs on Tuesdays. Being so busy the last 2 weeks (and upcoming 2 weeks) on Tuesday has had a huge impact on my social media engagement. It’s hard to make sure all my posts go up at the right time and getting to engage with everyone when I’m super busy during the day. I know this might sound silly to be frustrated by, but it throws off my routine and that is frustrating. I just can’t wait to get a little break and be able to focus on growing my blog and social media again.

Sweater: Mango / Pants & Shoes (similar): Target

Wednesday

Today I’m back in the city to get some more supplies and prep some last minute things before going back to our other office tomorrow. I’m feeling super tired because I went to bed last night and also frustrated by my current life routine. I’m in the mood to make some changes and hopefully get myself into a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. However, I do have the tendency to get obsessive over my routines so, for me, there is always a concern of being too restrictive of myself or obsessive about sticking with my routine. This past week and the week before I have been so incredibly frustrated because I’ve had to make adjustments to my routine and my plans and it made me feel like I had zero control over my life. I’m looking forward to the next few months when I don’t have to structure my life around so many other people and things, but until then I’m struggling to deal with my frustrations. So I’m hoping by implementing a new, novel routine, I can limit my frustrations and focus on something that is more flexible and balanced. We’ll see how this goes!

Sweater: American Eagle / Jeans: Topshop / Shoes: Steve Madden (similar)

Thursday

Thursday, again, I went to the other office so it was nice to get to sleep in a little bit that morning. However, I forgot to take a picture of my outfit before I left the house, so here we are with a little #oneleggedselfie. Again, it was pretty busy this day getting ready for our program next week which I was very happy about. I like being busy during the day because it makes it go by much faster. I feel like I can get really bored when I don’t have too much going on, which sometimes is great to get to relax, but most of the time I definitely prefer to be busy. I was not having the best time this whole week and was incredibly frustrated about a lot of things this whole week and Thursday was definitely a tough one but not the worst day of the week I think. But I’m definitely look forward to the end of this week and a relaxing weekend.

Sweater: & Other Stories / Pants: Target / Boots: Louise Et Cie

Friday

THANK GOODNESS for Friday! This week went by really quickly, but it was extremely frustrating in a lot of areas so I was so happy for Friday to finally come. I woke up feeling completely exhausted and was really hoping to have a relaxing day at work an it was for the most part. Earlier in the week I had gotten a ton of stuff done, so I had a much easier day today. I could not wait for the weekend though. On Friday night, Andrew came over and we had a super easy casual pizza and wine night to hangout and relax together. However, when I was coming home from getting the pizza, right as I pulled up to my house, I got a flat tire! I got out of the car and heard this incredibly loud air sound and I walked around the car and heard that it was coming from one of my tires. I told my mom, and she felt around and pulled out a HUGE piece of plastic from my tire and ultimately let the air out so much faster. It was completely flat within about 30 seconds. So that was an annoying way to end my Friday night, but definitely not the end of the world! We still had a nice relaxing night and I finally slept like a little baby after everything and I NEEDED it.

What I Wore This Week: 1/20/20 – 1/25/20

I had a crazy busy week last week so now we’re back to a regular weekly outfit recap post. It was nice having a little break, but I missed sharing my outfits every day! This week is a pretty exciting week because it’s my birthday and also my anniversary so there’s exciting things going on I think. We also got some real winter weather this week (like below freezing weather), so it’ll be fun to style some outfits for that! Keep on reading to see what I wore, what I did, and how I felt this week. Also make sure to follow me on Instagram to see these outfits in real time on my stories @karenmauritzenn. Everything is linked in the captions for you to shop on your own also!

Monday

Today is my first day back at work after taking a few days off last week so I am really excited to get back into my routine. I’m feeling productive which is good because I usually don’t feel good on Monday’s! At work, I had some catching up to do from the previous week so it was pretty busy for me but I definitely welcomed it. Plus, tons of people are off for the holiday today, so commuting was super easy and the office was really quiet. I have a ton of blog content to work on this week, some video content I want to experiment with, and just trying to get back into my regular schedule. Tonight we’re also going out to dinner for my birthday so I can’t wait to get some chicken parm in my belly!

Tuesday (My 25th Birthday)

Tuesday was an insanely busy day that I felt like I had no time to even think! There was so much to do at work, that I barely had time to breathe and definitely didn’t get to check my phone very much, which was a bit frustrating for me because I missed a ton of birthday messages. As far as birthday things go, it truly did not feel like my birthday. It was a regular day in the life, except I got a ton more text messages than usual. Other than that, I didn’t really do anything special! I just watched some TV with Andrew and went to bed too late. This birthday was a good one in the sense that I didn’t feel so stressed about growing up. I am in a place where I feel really good about where I am and how far I’ve come. I have a ton of things I am working toward and things that frustrate me everyday, but I know that I’m on the right path to get where I want to go finally.

Wednesday

Today was definitely better than yesterday in the sense that I felt calmer and not so overwhelmed. I just had a good outlook on today and I was really excited for it. I felt productive and like I could really get a lot done today. I also feel like I’m getting a bad cold which is annoying because I was doing SO well not getting sick this year. I’m hoping it’s not due to stress and I’ll get over it soon. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned for that. I’m also trying so hard to watch the Bachelor this season, but I started a week late and I was so behind so I finally caught up tonight and the drama is NUTS. I thought it was going to be really slow after the first 2 episodes, but the third one really heated things up so I’m excited to see what happens next.

Sweater: Target / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Steve Madden (similar)

Thursday

Today is such a rough one for me because I am fighting a nasty head cold. My nose is so stuffy and it feels like a million pounds and I’m so foggy, but I’m otherwise fine! I slept like a baby last night because I wasn’t feeling good and it still didn’t feel like enough. I’m hoping this little virus goes away soon though, because I’m traveling for work in about 2 weeks and I don’t want it to get even worse than it is! Other than my cold, things are slower today which is nice considering I don’t really have the mental capacity to do much anyway. I’m about ready for the weekend and hoping to rest up and relax since it was so busy last week. I’m trying my best to get back into a normal routine but it feels so difficult this month! Hopefully after this weekend, but we’ll see next week!

Sweater: & Other Stories / Leggings: Target / Shoes: Sam Edelman

Friday

First thing is that I’m going to start by apologizing for my outfit today. I truly could not bring myself to put on something more interesting than this. This cold has got me feeling so tired and stuffy that I can’t think about getting on a cute outfit. So for that, I am sorry! I had a nice and easy breezy day at work which was exactly what I needed because I just don’t have the brain power to think with this cold. I’m looking forward to snuggling up tonight with a giant blanket, a cup of hot lemon water and probably a movie since I caught up on the Bachelor already. The weekend could not have come soon enough and I am ready to relax, kick this cold to the curb, and celebrate my anniversary with my sweet man!

Weekend In My Life: My 25th Birthday

This past weekend was a little bit hectic but it was a ton of fun! I celebrated my 25th birthday (which is actually today, the 21st of January) on Saturday with some friends with some good food and drinks. I have been really looking forward to this weekend because I feel like I’ve been planning it for so long. It was exciting to see it all come together finally. I hope you enjoy reading about this weekend in my life!

So this weekend was a bit of whirlwind, but I think it turned out okay. I didn’t take many photos honestly because I was living in the moment but I made sure to get just one of my outfit at 12:00 am after getting my Shake Shack order. On Saturday night, I went out for my birthday with some family and friends. There was some snowy/wet weather which sort of put a damper on the evening because a few people couldn’t make it, but we still had fun!

For dinner, we went to Serafina in Meatpacking which is a nice Italian restaurant. They had a really wide variety of dishes on their menu and a pretty long drink list too which was exactly what I was hoping for. We got some calamari for an appetizer and I got eggplant parm for dinner. I also got my favorite wine, Josh Cabernet Sauvignon. It was the best dinner I could have asked for that night.

After that, we walked around the block over to Common Ground NYC which is a bar in the Meatpacking district also. It was about 7:30 pm when we got there but you would have thought it was 2:30 am based on how packed it was! It was nuts. But I was happy to be there and got to dance around, plus it thinned out a bit around 8:00 pm (probably because everyone realized they should go home after being there all day, but it was still too early to go out for the night). I drank my usual tequila sodas and had myself a good time dancing (mostly by myself).

After that, we decided to chill out and headed to the Biergarten at the Standard Hotel nearby. Here we got some authentic German beers and a giant pretzel which was a nice treat! Soon after this most of my friends headed home but Andrew and I stayed out and walked around a bit for some extra QT (quality time) together. We walked uptown and found Mexicue and decided to stop for some margaritas which were really yummy! After that we headed home to finally get some sleep after a long day, but stopped for Shake Shake of course (see photo below).

Overall, I had a good birthday and I’m happy I decided to go out instead of staying home because of the weather. It was a great way to start off my 25th year and I’m looking forward to see what else is in store for me!

Me after ordering Shake Shack at 12:00am: “Andrew, take a picture of my outfit!”

What I Wore This Week: 1/13/20 – 1/17/20

This week is a bit hectic, but should end up being okay I think. First thing is that I cannot believe we are half way through January already. Remember last year how January felt like it was 2 months long? This year is the exact opposite it looks like! Keep on reading to see what I did this week, what I wore and how I was feeling about all of it. I’ll be linking as many items as possible for you to shop also! Remember that I use affiliate links, so the retailer may pay me a commission for any purchases made via the links below at no additional cost to you! Also make sure to follow me on Instagram to see all of my outfits and updates in real time on my stores @karenmauritzenn.

Monday

This was the first day back after a crazy weekend. It was sort of a strange day if we’re honest but over time it ended up being okay. At work, I’m about 3 weeks out from our next event so things are ramping up and it’s very busy there. I’m also working on some other things in my personal life that I will share a bit later on and some more content for this blog. I shot a ton of content over the weekend so I had lots of editing to do! I also decided to start watching The Bachelor this week from the first episode, so I’m behind but I promise I’ll catch up! I’ve never seen it before and it’s so cringey but I have a feeling I’ll get addicted! I also got this sweater last week from Mango (on sale) and I am in love with the color! It’s so pretty and I really felt like I needed something blue in my closet. These exact items or something similar will all be linked in the caption!

Tuesday

Today is just as hectic as yesterday was! I am out of the office the rest of this week so I have quite a few things I need to get done before I leave. Today is the kind of day where I feel really focused because I know that I don’t have the time to relax and hangout. I try my best to just keep my head down and focus on my projects until they are completed, but that doesn’t always work out! Some other things I need to get done today are a few blogs for the next few weeks (the ones I shot over the weekend) and start prepping for the ones in February (so crazy). I also am celebrating my birthday this coming weekend (which has already past as you are reading this) so I need to finalize that also. It’s busy but always worth it because I’m passionate about it! For my outfit, I got this blazer last week also and I felt like I really should wear it and look nice one day so today is the day. It’s from Mango and was on sale!

Blazer: Mango / Shirt: Target / Jeans: Topshop / Shoes: Louise et Cie

So the rest of the week, I took a bit of a break because I had some other things going on but I promise on Monday we’ll be back to regularly scheduled programming. Thanks for your patience!
