OOTD + Life Update Chit Chat

So I wanted to share a little life update because right now I’m trying to make new and positive strides in my life. I also wanted to share my cute outfit while I gave you the update because… this is a fashion blog, people.

So like I mentioned in a previous post, the start of October was not easy on me. I really was going through an emotional rollercoaster. But I made the decision to do things that are good for me and make me happy and help me develop into a better, stronger, smarter, more resilient person.  Aside from going to the gym consistently, I made a point to listen to a new chapter of the Bible every morning as soon as I wake up. I also committed to reading one book per month so that eventually I can push myself to read a new book every 2 weeks and then every week. I love reading so I really want to be able to get more reading in to my ~very~ busy schedule. I also started looking into different networking events and events where I can meet people that have a similar mindset as me. And so far, I’ve enjoyed myself and I feel a lot better but I still have rough days. I feel like I can do more to help myself be happy by myself. So I thought I would try some new things in my routine and here I’m telling you what I’m trying out.

The first thing I started doing was taking better control of my finances. I’m trying to reduce how much I use my credit card and get back into the habit of using my debit card or cash. So I decided to give myself a set amount for the two weeks in between paychecks that I can spend. I’m 23 years old and I live with my mom, so I don’t have expenses other than my phone bill, my student loans, and my credit card bill. Therefore, I don’t need a lot of money to live. I allotted a certain amount to keep in my checking account to use for food, gas and fun after I take care of my expenses. So far, I think it’s helping a lot but I get those cravings for treating myself to something fun which by the end of 2 weeks, there’s not always enough leftover. So I started deciding at the beginning of each week what I’m going to treat myself to and making sure I’m setting aside what I need for that. It’s helped a little bit to get rid of that craving feeling for spending, which is great but it’s definitely a lifestyle adjustment that I’m still getting used to.

Another thing I started doing was listening to podcasts. It’s a lot of fun and I find them super interesting. I’m still exploring them and figuring out what I like and what I want out of them but I do like them. It’s like getting to sit in on a little panel talk without actually going to one. However, I find that I can’t multitask. I guess because I really want to hear and understand the content of them, so I can’t put them on and then try and do something else. I actually tried to write this blog post while listening to one and had to wait the hour and a half until it was over to write a single word. But for driving in the car or commuting on the train, I think they are perfect for that because you can listen without distraction.

One other thing I decided to try is meditation using the very popular apps that are around these days. It was recommended to me by a very good friend of mine after I told her about a tough situation I was dealing with. She mentioned that it helped her a lot when dealing with stress and anxiety, even if it was only for 5 minutes. At first, I thought it was going to be just another thing to add on to my routine but after thinking about it, I thought it could be something to really look into. So I downloaded a bunch of apps like Calm, Insight Timer, and Simple Habit and tried to start meditating. I started one night after having a bad day, and did one that was for a good night’s sleep. It was definitely not easy to get into a full meditation at all let alone within 5 minutes but I think the calmness and quiet time was helpful before bed. I slept very well that night. I also tried it again in the morning to start my day off right and even though I was sleepy still, I felt like I was starting my day on a positive note. Meditation is HARD but I think just laying down, releasing all my thoughts and relaxing and breathing has helped me feel better every day. I try to do it at least once a day and it’s a major part of my routine now and I’m looking forward to really exploring this side of myself.

The final thing I decided to do was take my blog seriously. I started this just as a creative outlet and a way to get my ideas out into the world and share my thoughts and feelings. After a few months of writing and taking photos and posting, I realized that this is a heck of a lot of work but I really enjoy it. It’s satisfying to know that people like what I have to say. Fashion is something I’ve always been interested in but writing this blog has showed me it’s something I’m really passionate about in combination with sharing my thoughts. It’s also a great way for my to have a record of where my life was at certain points, which is just convenient and interesting to look back on. So I decided that because I love doing this, I want to post things that are more meaningful like this little life update. Fashion of course is my main priority, but I want to show you what’s going on behind the scenes too.

Business Casual OOTD

While it’s still not terribly cold, I wanted to share this business casual look! There’s something chic about a pair of jeans and button down. The jeans keeps it very casual and comfortable but the button down shows you mean business. I also added in a pair of nude heels to really amp up the business aspect of the outfit. It’s also a great look to transition into happy hour after work! If you throw on a long trench or fuzzy coat, this outfit can take you way into the fall and winter! A bold red or orange also adds a fun pop of color to this otherwise simple outfit.

Lately, I’m thinking a lot about my future and what I want it to look like. Where do I want to live? Do I want kids? How many? Should I get married? How am I going to make money? Will I get to travel? Will I be happy? There’s tons of questions floating around in my head and to be honest, it’s tough and frustrating to figure it all out. Somethings that have really helped me stay calm while trying to get my life on the right track has been reading lots and lots of books! Books that are uplifting and motivating and positive, but not necessarily self-help books. Just books that make me feel good and inspire me to look at things differently. There’s a world of endless possibilities out there for me. I’ve also found that a quick prayer every night to say thank you and ask for guidance helps too! It’s so easy to get caught up in where I’m not and what I’m not doing and what’s missing so taking the time to just say thank you for what I have reminds me just how good I have it.

Leopard Print 5 Ways for Fall

There is nothing I love more than leopard print everything. Seriously. I loved it way before it was trendy and I’ll love it way after. It’s such a bold and exciting print but in reality, it’s basically a neutral. The versatility that comes with leopard print it why I love it so much. It’s either a major statement piece with a pair of cool pants or a top or it can add a small pop of interest as a pair of shoes or a belt.

Today, I put together 5 outfits for you that all incorporate leopard print! They range from very bold to minimal boldness, but they are all extremely fun and wearable, no matter what your style is.

Outfit #1:

I thought I’d start off with a cozy, warm leopard sweater. I paired it with a faux leather skirt and some burgundy ankle boots for a different kind of pop of color. Very fun, but still keeps you warm!

Outfit #2:

Keeping it simple but still bold, I paired this cool leopard button down with a plain pair of black skinnies and black boots. Since leopard is a neutral, I decided to throw on a brown suede moto jacket instead of a basic black one, because mixing neutrals is fun 🙂

Outfit #3:

I think this one is one of my favorites because it’s not too crazy in your face. It’s super wearable if you just want a small pop of animal print! I took one of my favorite white sweaters and jeans and added a leopard belt and a pair of boots. I topped it off with this cozy coat for some extra warmth.

Outfit #4:

This is one of the bolder outfits because these leopard pants are absolutely insane and not for the faint of heart. Because the pants really steal the show, I added on a simple black cami, leather jacket and some boots. Very simple, but VERY LOUD.

Outfit #5:

This is another favorite of mine because it’s bold but not because of the leopard! I paired my leopard heels with a bright red turtleneck sweater and my favorite jeans. I absolutely love the bright red and leopard together!

How to Wear Shorts for Fall

Fall is definitely my favorite season for fashion but you can’t transition everything into your cold weather wardrobe. I thought it would be really fun to style a pair of shorts for the fall/winter months.

I found these super cute faux leather shorts at Zara and thought they were absolutely perfect for fall. The color is so beautiful and goes very well with the changing leaves! I decided to pair it with this nude sweater from Urban Outfitters. I love turtlenecks, but in the fall you don’t always need a thick heavy sweater so this one is a great transitional piece and can easily be layered with vests or heavier coats. For shoes, I thought black suede over the knee boots were the perfect match for this outfit.

Miami Beach Vacation Outfits

If you didn’t know from my Miami Packing Essentials post a few weeks ago, I went on vacation to Miami Beach, FL. We stayed at the Confidante which is part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt Hotels (you’ll eventually realize that Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain). I had the most amazing time with a few of my friends, just relaxing on the beach or by the pool, having a few drinks, laughing, tanning and just enjoying each other’s company. We spent most of our time relaxing but I did manage to get out of my bathing suit a few times so I thought I’d show you a few of my outfits.

The first day we arrived we mainly just went to the beach and had a few drinks so we were preparing to be in full relaxation mode. We also went out to the Wynwood area for dinner and had some delicious tacos at Coyo Taco. They were SO yummy!

The following day I went to the Miami Seaquarium and saw basically every show they had for the day! It was fun because I’ve never been to an aquarium before so it was cool to see how big those animals are in real life. It was unreal!

That same night we also went out to the club because what else do you do in Miami? We went to LIV, of course, so I had to put on this super cool sparkly dress. I actually borrowed it from my friend!

The next day, we were all so exhausted so we decided to just relax by the pool and have some drinks. It was really nice out this day so we got some great tanning time in and even made good friends with the bar tenders. They told us about a few good bars to go to in South Beach too!

On our second to last day, we went out to celebrate a friend’s birthday with dinner at Komodo. It was also Miami Spice, which is similar to Restaurant Week in New York, and got a really great deal on our meal! It also helps that the food was absolutely delicious.

Finally, it was our last day and our flight was in the afternoon so we got up bright and early and went to the beach one last time. Seeing the early morning sun was beautiful and very satisfying knowing that we had an amazing trip. I’m so thankful that I was able to spend that quality time with my friends, create new memories, and have new experiences with them!

OOTD: Casual, Running Errands

I personally love to run errands and get things done on a Saturday afternoon after getting a good workout in at the gym and having a nice breakfast and a big cup of coffee. That’s just when I feel the most productive and excited to work on the fun things in my life, like this wonderful blessing I call my blog. And to be honest, I also love to run around in sweatpants and a sweatshirt and not care what I look like because it’s easier and comfier. But in the summer it’s so easy to put together a cute and casual outfit, that I actually prefer to put on a pair of denim shorts and a white t-shirt to run my errands. Like I’ve mentioned before, I feel way more productive when I get dressed and look put together.

I have also recently been thinking about my future and what I want out of my life. I’ve had a lot of changes going on recently, and I suddenly felt like my future was a totally blank slate which was both terrifying and exciting. It’s funny the way life/the universe/God/whatever you want to call it shows us what we’re supposed to do. It’s sometimes as gentle as a good gut feeling but sometimes it comes in the form of a tough loss. It forced me to sit down and really think about where I want my life go to in the next 2, 5 or 10 years. And not just sit down, but WRITE it down so it’s out in the world to manifest. I know I’ve got some work to do on myself, but I want to embrace the change and take this time to explore myself because I truly feel like I can do whatever I set my mind to.
