Sephora Beauty Haul and Review

About 2 weeks ago I shared my updated Fall Skincare Routine on here and I shared a ton of new products. Now that I’ve actually used the products for a few weeks, I wanted to share my honest review of them with you too. I hadn’t changed my skincare routine in about a year, so this was definitely interesting to me to have to figure out what to try. I try to keep my skincare routine simple, because I feel that simple usually gets you the best results. Keep on reading to see how I like the new products I got!

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Honey Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask

This is a limited edition version of the original Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Mask that is made with honey which is a super moisturizing ingredient for your hair. It’s also not skincare, but it’s the only one I have that’s not, so I figured I should share first. It comes in a cute little teddy bear bottle, which I like better than the original tub version because it’s just easier to squeeze the product out and see how much you’re using. I like the smell sort of, it’s a little too sweet for me but it’s still nice. It smells sort of like synthetic/plastic sugar cookie so do with that what you will. The scent lasts after you get out of the shower and smells much better once your hair is dry. As far as moisture goes, I do find it more moisturizing than the original which is the point so it’s definitely worth looking into!

Summer Fridays CC Me Vitamin C Serum

I love to use a Vitamin C serum for brightening and I had used the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum for a year and just felt like I needed a change. I had never used any Summer Fridays products before, but had always heard good things about the brand. I’ve also been a huge fan of Marianna Hewitt for a few years so when I saw this product, I figured why not? The texture is very light and reminds me of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. It’s got like a silicon texture once it’s applied on your face, which I actually like a lot. The texture feels really light and it’s got a very light scent. I don’t see a huge difference in brightness, but it’s only been 2 weeks so I wouldn’t mind giving this a little bit longer to work it’s magic.

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask

I love this eye mask so far! I think it’s done a great job of brightening and depuffing my eyes. With my new work schedule and commuting an hour and a half every day (versus my previous 5 minute commute), I’m definitely lacking sleep so this helps me pretend like I’m not. The texture is really heavy and creamy which personally, I love for night time. I like to use it in the morning too, because it works very quickly to help depuff. There’s really not a distinctive scent which is nice since it’s an eye cream and sometimes fragrance can be irritating. I would definitely recommend this product if you’re on the market for a new eye cream.

THE ORDINARY Lactic Acid 10% + HA

This is a product that I’ve used for the last year, but only in the 5% version. Sephora doesn’t sell that one and frankly, I didn’t want to put in a separate order for a $6 product so I just stepped it up to the 10% version. It’s definitely stronger, so I don’t recommend using it if you have sensitive skin. I like this because my skin really feels smooth, soft and brighter after using this product. I use it once or twice a week depending on what my skin has been doing that week. I love this product and I like that there’s the option to get the less strong version also! Plus the price is nice too!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

This is a product that I got as a sample with my order and I really like it actually. It keeps my skin really soft and healthy looking. It’s an oil but it’s really light and so far I would definitely consider buying the full size version. It’s a little pricey for a serum, but I think it does a good job at repairing my skin so I would probably purchase when I run out of this sample size!

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

This is another product that I got as a sample and I am definitely going to buy a full size of this. I love to use a super moisturizing heavy moisturizer/cream at night and this is not that. It’s super moisturizing, but not heavy at all. It feels really light, almost cooling, but it is so moisturizing. If you have dry skin, I would highly recommend this product but it’s also great for oily skin too. It’s so good and I think I’m going to look into a few more Laneige products.

How I Style My Favorite Sweater 4 Ways

I’ve found my new favorite sweater for the season and I decided to style it 4 ways to show you how versatile these kinds of pieces can be! In the winter, a sweater is the equivalent of a plain white t-shirt. It can be paired so many different ways, dressed up or down. I chose to style this olive green sweater from Something Navy x Nordstrom and you can shop it, right here. Keep reading to see how I styled this sweater four different ways!

Outfit 1

This one is my favorite because it’s probably the most common way I’d style this. I paired it with my new favorite dad jeans from Topshop and a pair of cream heels. Super simple and really cute! I can wear this for a night out or I can switch out the heels for sneakers and go run errands.

Outfit 2

This one is more fun and dressy than the previous outfit. While the weather is not too chilly, I paired it with these black leather pants and some mid calf slouchy black boots. I love the look of leather and suede boots, and I thought it was a perfect way to style the sweater. A balanced mix of dressy and casual.

Outfit 3

Because the sweater is just a little over size, I thought it would look nice thrown over a button down top and paired with some leather leggings. It’s a casual outfit when paired with sneakers, but I decided to go with the same mid calf suede boots! Perfect for a dinner date when it starts getting chillier.

Outfit 4

This is my work wear way to style this sweater. I love these cream trousers and thought they would look so pretty with the green sweater. Since it’s fall, I was inspired with the leaves and paired the outfit with these orange heels, but you can really take this anywhere you want. You can do nude heels or black, ankle boots, flats or sneakers to make this outfit versatile for any occasion.

Get To Know Me: 10 Random Facts

Hello everyone!! It’s been about a year, or a little over since I shared some personal information about myself on here. I got so caught up in creating interesting content, that I forgot to re-introduce myself to my new readers! So, today I thought I would share 10 facts about myself, some random and other more necessary for you to get to know me. Feel free to share something about yourself in the comments!

1. I’m 24 years old

I turned 24 in January 2019 and I graduated from the University at Buffalo back in 2017! I was also in a sorority there, Delta Phi Epsilon!

2. I work as a Meeting Planner in New York City

Despite popular belief (just kidding), I actually do have a job that I go to every day. I work as a meeting planner for a company based in Manhattan. If you follow me on Instagram, you’d get to see my daily outfit posts on my story and also my coffee order every day before work!

3. I’m originally from Long Island, though!

Born and raised, but hoping to move sometime next year!

4. My favorite easy dinner to make is grilled cheese and tomato soup

This is always my go-to dinner when I don’t really feel like making dinner but don’t want to eat out! I usually use 2-3 kinds of cheese if I have it, whole or multi grain bread, and Progresso tomato basil soup. It’s SO GOOD.

5. Josh Cellars is my favorite brand of wine

I love their original cabernet sauvignon, but I also love the Pasa Robles one. I like the rosé and the pinot noir also!

6. I take all my photos on my iPhone X

Mainly out of convenience, but the photo quality is still excellent!

7. My favorite app is Instagram, and my second is Pinterest

I get ALL of my outfit inspiration from these two apps, so I spend a scary amount of time scrolling and trying to find new people to follow and interact with. It’s been so helpful when prepping content for fall. My Pinterest is linked here and my Instagram is linked here.

8. I don’t usually like to eat dessert

I do however, have a soft spot for brownies and dark chocolate! I eat one or two pieces of dark chocolate basically everyday.

9. I workout three times a week, usually

Right now, I’m using the tone and sculpt app by Krissy Cela because I have such a long day due to work so working out at home is easier right now. But, I started working out in 2016 and learned to lift heavy weights, and that was my favorite kind of work out up until about May or June 2019! I would go to the gym 5-6 days a week because I loved it so much.

10. My biggest inspiration is Arielle Charnas

As far as bloggers go, I really think she’s the ultimate. I’ve been following her and her blog since 2014 and she’s been a huge inspiration for my overall style. She makes me feel like there’s so much room for success in this industry if you’re just true to yourself.

Target Haul: My New Favorite Fall Pieces

I recently shared a Target Haul on my Instagram Stories and I figured I would also officially style those pieces on here too! I really love these pieces and they are great additions to my fall wardrobe. Each piece is great for multiple occasions, which is why I chose them in the first place. They are also fairly classic styles that could definitely transcend more than a few seasons. Keep on reading to see how I styled each piece and follow me on Instagram to see the try on in my highlights @karenmauritzenn. Everything is linked!

Outfit 1

The first piece is this super cute dress. I initially love the shape of it and the sleeves, but once I got it in the mail I also loved the material and the fit. The material is a thick denim material so it’s great to transition into the fall. I really love a shift style dress so the fit was great and the puff sleeve detail really sold me! I paired it with these old polka dot mules from Something Navy x Nordstrom and I promise this outfit will be on repeat all season!

Outfit 2

I got this feminine black top because it was versatile and stylish enough to wear for work but also going out with friends or on a date with my handsome man. It’s got a wrap style detail in the front which creates the illusion of a smaller waist, so it’s super flattering on all body types! It would look great with black trousers for work or with jeans for date night. I’d throw on a leather jacket for an evening out and be all set. I paired it with some medium wash raw hem jeans from Topshop and these strappy sandals, but you can do a lot more with this top.

Outfit 3

I saw this little puff sleeve t-shirt in stores one day and couldn’t stop thinking about it so I went online and ordered it about a week later! I think this is a perfect casual top to pair with jeans to go out with friends or a casual date night, but when paired with trousers would be great for work also. I’ve shared my love for these orange trousers a bunch of times also so I decided they would look so fun with this top and a simple pair of suede heels. These tan suede heels are on clearance for less than $10! This whole outfit is from Target, actually!

I was in desperate need for plain long sleeve tees so I, of course, looked at Target. They have the best quality basics for the best price. These tees are only $10! I got this top is this pretty orange and an oatmeal color. I also already had it in black and white from last year. I decided to keep this outfit casual with a pair of light wash straight leg jeans from topshop and a pair of sneakers from Target also. These never go out of style and are also $10!

Outfit 5

I have been scouring the earth for the perfect tan cardigan and I finally found it. The material is high quality and super soft so I was very impressed with the quality. I kept this really casual because this is definitely the most common way that I’d style this cardigan. I just threw on a simple white tank and my favorite leggings and white sneakers and now we have a LOOK. Cute for grabbing coffee or heading to the pumpkin patch!

The Best Neutral Work Outfits For Fall

As you know, I love a good neutral outfit so I was inspired to share some of my favorites for work in the fall. Honestly the fall colors are really what got me, so these are a pleasant balance of fall and neutral colors. I’m REALLY looking forward to wearing these over the next few months! Keep on reading to see some of my fall outfit ideas for the office.

Outfit #1

I raved about these pants in my last post and guess what, they’re back. I’m head over heels for these pants, they are so dang cute. If you buy anything this fall, please buy these!! I paired them with a taupe sweater I got from Old Navy a few years ago and some nude heels and now we have my favorite ~lewk~ for fall.

Outfit #2

Guess what! These are the same pants, but in orange because they are the best, linked here. If this is unclear, please see paragraph above. In the fall, orange is a neutral and I don’t care what you say. I paired these with this leopard print sweater (that is also a neutral, don’t @ me) and some white heels for a perfectly put together fall inspired look.

Outfit #3

I have a feeling, I’m going to be very into all black outfits this season, so here’s my fall inspiration for it. I love this outfit, because if you switch out the shoes for heels or mules or booties, it can easily go from day to night without being too scandalous for the office.

Outfit #4

A sweater dress is a great way to stay cozy, but put together for fall. Plus these are SO easy to come back now a days. I remember a few years ago struggling to find them in stores! This one is from Target last year and I’ve gotten a ton of use out of it. Plus the gray color is super easy to style with any type of shoes or jacket.

Outfit #5

For casual Friday, I went with a super casual look, jeans with a button down and sweater over. Groundbreaking. It’s such a simple outfit, but you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I like it but you can always remove one layer and get a totally different cute outfit out of this look. And both are work appropriate!

Things I Loved This Month: September 2019

September has been a good month, I think. Very busy and lots of travel going on so I’m excited to share this month’s favorites with you. Keep on reading to see what some of my favorite things were!

Punta Cana, DR

Earlier this month, I went on vacation to Punta Cana and stayed at Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana. It’s an all inclusive resort in Bavaro Beach and it was a really nice trip. I was so happy to relax and lay on a beach for 5 days without a care in the world. We spent a good amount of time relaxing by the pool/beach, eating good food, and drinking yummy drinks. It was an exciting, and romantic trip and I was so happy that we got to go!

Toronto, Canada

I also took a little trip to Toronto for work, which was also a great time. Though it was busy during the day, I was able to get out and explore one night. I took a stroll down Yonge St. and treated myself to some of the best sushi I’ve had in a while! Toronto is such a young, happening city so I’m looking forward to going back to explore some more!

Pumpkin Cream Nitro Cold Brew

Say what you want but Starbucks and all things pumpkin got the best of me this month. I’ve been drinking the pumpkin cream cold brews non-stop all month long and I see no end in sight honestly. I will usually get a nitro because of the caffeine but when I’m not so sleepy, I’ll stick with a regular cold brew. It’s just sweet enough that you don’t need to add any other creamer or sweetner to it. Definitely try this if you’re into pumpkin drinks!

Pumpkin Beer

I tried my fair share of pumpkin beers this month also and I have to say it’s hard to choose a favorite! I’m really into local beers, so I’ve tried mostly the ones at breweries around Long Island. My favorites so far are the Montauk Brewing Company Pumpkin Ale and the North Fork Brewing Co. Butternut the Hutt, but an honorable mention to the Blue Point Brewery for their Pumpkin Ale also!

Target

I’ve been all over Target this month because they’re getting in all their new fall fashion. Target has really stepped their game up in recent years as far as fashion goes by adding in all new brands. My favorites are the Who What Wear brand and the A New Day brand. They have really pretty pieces for work, but also some of the best quality basics for under $20 (think: tees for $10 and leggings for $14). Plus they often have dupes for other brands, like Madewell which has such cute pieces but the price point is not necessarily affordable. Definitely check out some of the new styles there!

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

I put up a question sticker on my Instagram Stories recently asking for suggestions for drugstore foundations and this is one that was recommended to me by a friend. I decided to try it out because I liked the $5.99 price tag and I fell in love. It’s got a medium coverage, but it’s definitely buildable (just make sure it dries in between layers). Plus the shade range is insane! I found my exact match and only needed to try out 2 shades. Love this and highly recommend for a drugstore alternative foundation.

How To Style Pink For Fall

Now that we’re really into the swing of things for fall, I thought I’d also get into styling for fall. One thing I’ve been really into has been pink for the fall. Pink is the kind of color that, no matter the shade, is always associated with spring and summer. I’m here to show you that it can be worn all year round! Keep on reading to see how I style my pink pieces for the fall.

Outfit #1

I got this pink cardigan from the September 2019 collection of Something Navy because 1) I’m obsessed with pink and 2) felt I needed a new cardigan. This one comes in a dark gray and a pretty rusty orange color (that I’m very interested in). My favorite way to style button up cardigans is with just a cute bralette under and jeans or even trousers if you’re ballsy (not for work unless you’re SUPER ballsy). Today I went with some medium/dark wash mom jeans and a pair of white sandals (similar) since the weather is not REALLY that fall yet.

Sweater: Something Navy / Jeans: Topshop / Sandals: Steve Madden

Outfit #2

These pink trousers are very spring if we’re honest, but I figured the best way to make them more fall was to add some leather to the look. I paired this leather jacket over a plain white t-shirt and some black mules. What I love is that adding the leather also grunges up the look a bit more, while the pink pants and the mules keep the look feminine and perfectly balanced. My pants are sold out but here is a similar pair at a similar price point!

Outfit #3

I’m obsessed with this sweater! I’ve shown it to you a few times in the brown and now I’m sharing the pink because it’s that good, linked here. Super soft and cozy and perfect for fall. I found these cream pants at Target a few weeks ago and impulse bought them, but they are the kind of pants that are wardrobe staples but I can never find in stores. I knew I had to grab them, especially because they were less than $30! I’m adding a denim jacket and sneakers to dress it down, but you can add heels and a blazer to dress it up for work.

Outfit #4

I’ve shown you guys this pink trench tons of times, because it’s just the cutest. For a pink coat, it really goes well with everything and I wore the heck out of it in the spring this past year. I paired it with a pretty simple all white outfit to transition it into the fall. One of my favorite white sweaters and the same cream pants from the previous outfit look super cute with the pop of pink while still keeping you warm. I added nude heels but again you can dress it down with sneakers! The long version of this coat is sold out, but here’s a similar short version from the same company.
