My Favorite Places to Shop: 2019

I did this post last year around this time and I truly feel my style has changed so much that I thought I should re do it. In the last year, I’ve really focused on having a curated closet with pieces that I will want to wear time and time again. I think that mainly comes from focusing on quality and, of course, just figuring out who I am as an adult. It’s been a crazy, busy, eye-opening year and there has been so much going on, but they have all made me into the person I am now; someone I am very proud of. I want my style to reflect that person everyday. I’m still working on perfecting it and am missing a few staple pieces, but keep reading to see what some of my favorite stores to shop at have been this year.

For Basics:

To me basics means, t-shirts and long sleeves mainly, but a few fitted camis and tank tops also. Layering pieces. Things you wear under other things, not really things to wear on their own (obviously excluding the tees and long sleeves). For these pieces, I almost always go to Target! I love all the basics from A New Day because they are 1) affordable and 2) high quality cotton. I buy t-shirts, long sleeves, turtle necks, camis, and tank tops from this brand because they range from $8-$15, are sometimes on sale and last me a very long time through tons of washes and wears. Some stores I want to try out for some basics are Madewell and Banana Republic!

For Denim:

As you all know, my absolute favorite place to buy denim is Topshop. I have like 20 pairs of jeans from Topshop in all different styles because they just fit me the best! I wear jeans almost every day so having good quality (but still affordable) denim is a major key to my style. Topshop has tons of different styles, shades, and levels of distressing which makes it really easy to find jeans for work and for play on the weekends. You know I’m obsessed with their Mom jeans! I also have a new found love for their straight leg jeans, as well as the Jamie jeans and the Joni jeans. They are simply the best! Next year, I am looking to try out some jeans from Madewell because I’ve heard so many good things, as well as Everlane, AGOLDE, and GRLFRND.

For Sweaters:

My favorite and most worn sweaters are either from American Eagle or Something Navy. I seriously have a ton of sweaters and those are always the ones I choose to wear first. I am always pleasantly surprised by the quality, the color range and the overall fit and wear of them. I love a good neutral sweater, so I love picking up a new oatmeal color sweater or a brown sweater. I also LOVE to throw on a bright pink or purple sweater to mix things up! I wish I could wear sweaters year round honestly. I am really looking forward to trying out some higher quality sweaters from stores like J.Crew, Sezane, Everlane and Banana Republic. These are such classic stores, so they will last me forever!

For Dresses:

Now this is a toughie for me because I don’t wear dresses TOO often. Definitely in the spring and summer because it’s just easier for me to throw one on with sandals and get out the door. But in the fall and winter, I tend to put all of my dresses away and leave them in storage. This coming year I want to wear more dresses so I’m hoping to incorporate more into my closet! When I do wear dresses, they are almost always from either Zara or Target. I think Zara makes the most beautiful and unique dresses and honestly, if there’s one thing Zara does exceptionally well, it’s dresses. Target also makes very cute, affordable dresses for work which is usually what I’d be shopping for anyway. My favorite brand for dresses at Target are usually WhoWhatWear and A New Day!

For Coats:

I am a huge coat person. I think it’s a layer that can really level up your outfit, while keeping you warm and toasty underneath. I have no problem spending a little more on a coat because I know I will wear it. My favorite coats are always from Something Navy. I can’t get enough of them. They are great quality, warm, and stylish all in one. I also just recently got 2 coats from Mango and am over the moon about them! Mango has a really great selection of high quality and affordable coats.

For Shoes:

I spend so much money on shoes from Nordstrom simply because they carry tons of brands! I love to buy high quality, classic shoes that will last me a long time because I need to stop buying so many pairs so I try to buy ones that I want to keep for a few years and not want to throw away or replace the next year. I’m a huge fan of Sam Edelman shoes this year and have recently bought a new pair of beautiful fringe boots and have my eye on the Hai Knee High Boots. I also love the Hazel pumps, they are such a perfect classic shoe. I also love Steve Madden for shoes too, which you all know. Majority of my shoes are from Steve Madden because I think the quality is great, and they are relatively affordable. I think in the coming year, I’ll definitely keep up with the Sam Edelman shoes, but I also want to explore more shoes from Zara because they have funky styles and are super high quality.

For Accessories:

You all know I love to buy my accessories from Baublebar. They have the cutest earrings, usually super festive and gaudy. They also have cute hair clips, headbands, and customized jewelry. I buy from them seasonally usually when I want to keep my outfits more interesting! I always love what they come out with for summer, and I recently just bought a bunch of pretty gold hoops and pearl earrings from them also. I also usually get all my headbands on Amazon also! I like these because they sell them in big packs of 3-8 so you can get a ton of colors, for not a lot of money. I got these cute padded headbands, the pearl/knot headbands, and these Gucci inspired ones all from Amazon for less than $40 total! I have also seen such pretty accessories at Zara, so I think I’ll be purchasing a few of those soon too!

Four Cute Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t it a little soon to be planning Thanksgiving outfits?” The answer is no, because I’m light years behind all the other bloggers by doing this TWO WEEKS before Thanksgiving. Anyway, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays so I’m excited that it’s almost here. I truly cannot believe that we are getting into the full swing of the holidays now and 2019 is almost over. It really feels like yesterday that I was celebrating Christmas with my family at home and now it’s around the corner, but I digress. To get you in the holiday spirit I’m sharing 4 super cute and super easy outfits to wear for Thanksgiving dinner.

Outfit 1:

I shared this leopard dress last week in my going out outfits post and now I’m sharing it again for Thanksgiving because ~ versatility ~ is key. This time though, I threw a cozy sweater from American Eagle over top and belted it at the waist for some added shape. I also paired it with these gorgeous leather OTK boots from Steve Madden. I found these boots at an outlet in Sunrise, FL and have literally never seen them since but they are the best over the knee leather boots I can find and I wish could share the link with you. However, this outfit would look super cute, if not cuter, with knee high leather boots like these Sam Edelman ones that I have my eye on.

Outfit 2:

I love this pretty sweater dress and I wish it was still available. I got it from Mink Pink via Revolve about 2 years ago and never appreciated it until this past year! It’s so warm and cozy so it’s great to wear with knee high boots to essentially keep you completely covered up! Here’s a similar sweater dress for you, linked here. I decided to belt it for some added shape and wear my favorite Zara boots for some color. This is definitely one of my favorite outfits!

Outfit 3:

For this one I wanted to be super comfy, yet still put together and for me that means cozy pants and a big comfy sweater. I have shown these Abercrombie belted pants a bunch of times because you know I love them so much! As for this sweater, I think it speaks for itself. I saw it and knew I had to have it and I was hitting the check out button before my mind even knew what was happening. Okay, not really but I do love this because the colors are so pretty together. They make this sweater more neutral because you can wear it with SO many different colors and it will still look like it “goes together”. The sweater is linked here for you and comes in tons of colors.

Outfit 4:

Last but not least, this one is a little more business casual but I think it’s still really cute. I like the idea of wearing trousers instead of jeans sometimes because it dresses it up, but a sweater keeps it casual still. These are the same target pants that I raved about earlier this season and I feel the same way about them now. The sweater is also a recent purchase and I love the color! Perfect for fall and it goes with just about everything I own, because you know I love brown everything. Sweater is linked here for you!

What Happens When My Boyfriend Lets Me Dress Him

A few months ago I let my boyfriend, Andrew, dress me in 4 different outfits for my blog post, linked here for your viewing pleasure. This time around, he let me dress him! I was really excited about this because he does often ask my opinion on what to wear so it was nice that he let me have full control this time! I was also really excited to see how he would do in front of the camera this time, since he’s usually behind it taking my photos! I think he did an excellent job and is definitely giving me a run for my money. Keep on reading to see what I dressed him in!

Outfit 1:

One thing I love is when Andrew wears these khaki pants because they fit him so well. So of course, my first outfit was going to include them! We got these at Abercrombie over the summer and were pleasantly surprised by the fit and the quality. We also went and got the black shirt at H&M about a month ago. I liked it because it’s heavier than a regular button down which makes it great for fall and winter. Of course, black boots was the obvious choice here and it really pulls it all together I think.

Pants: Abercrombie / Top: H&M / Shoes: Cole Haan

Outfit 2:

This is one of my favorite looks because I know this is something he would pick out himself. Just like me, he’s a big jeans and t-shirt kind of guy so this one was a no brainer! He got the jeans earlier this year at American Eagle and they are such good quality and they have so many sizes/styles which made it really easy to find ones he liked. Andrew almost exclusively wears t-shirts from Express so that’s where he got this one. They make great t-shirts and they usually have a buy one get one deal for them also! Now, personally I think Andrew looks really good in blue so whenever I get the chance, I tell him to wear this blue bomber jacket and it always pulls the whole look together.

Jacket: RVCA / Top: Express / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Adidas
Jacket: RVCA / Top: Express / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Adidas
Jacket: RVCA / Top: Express / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Adidas

Outfit 3:

I think Andrew actually wore this outfit on our second date, but he hasn’t worn it in a while and it’s one of my favorites for him. He’s got a lumberjack thing going on when he wears plaid! He sort of recently got these black pants because his other ones ripped beyond repair and we were surprised to find them at Old Navy. They are surprisingly good quality and were even on sale! So it looks like we have to head back to Old Navy soon to take a look.

Pants: Old Navy / T-shirt: 32 Degrees / Shirt: Weatherproof / Shoes: Cole Haan
Pants: Old Navy / T-shirt: 32 Degrees / Shirt: Weatherproof / Shoes: Cole Haan
Pants: Old Navy / T-shirt: 32 Degrees / Shirt: Weatherproof / Shoes: Cole Haan

Outfit 4:

This is another outfit that I love because it’s another one he would definitely pick out for himself. The blue pants are the same as the black ones from the previous outfit and the henley is from Abercrombie, another surprising find! These henleys are great because they are a waffle knit which makes them breathable, but still warm now that it’s getting cooler here. I also had him pair these brown boots with this outfit because I thought he had a brown jacket to match them with but he does not, so looks like that’s what we’re getting next!

Pants: Old Navy / Shirt: Abercrombie / Shoes: Bass

Finally, a HUGE MASSIVE thank you to our friend Eric Dulmovits for his amazing work shooting these photos. He was such a big help and I am so happy with how these photos came out. He does great work (obviously) and was so quick to get these back to us. I’m thankful to have such a talented friend! If you are in the Long Island area and looking for a photographer, please reach out to him! Send him an email for bookings at eric.dulmovits@gmail.com and check out his Instagram @ecdulmo to see more of his work!

I hope you enjoyed this little series and let me know in the comments if you want me to trick anyone else into letting me dress them! I’d be happy to oblige!

New Fall Winc Wine: Honest Review

After taking a month off from drinking, I am back sharing a review of my most recent order of wine from Winc. I partnered with Winc a couple of months ago for the first time and I was so excited that they asked me to work with them again. Thank you to Winc for sending me a few more bottles of wine to try out!

One thing I like about Winc is that you can rate and review your picks from the previous month so that your wines can be better curated to your taste for the following month. I found this really helpful because I was really unsure what I wanted to try this time around. I decided to take the quick six question quiz again but instead of ordering 2 white and 2 reds, I went with 3 reds and 1 white because I prefer reds in general. Thank goodness I picked more reds, because I think this box was curated perfectly for me!

Because I took a break from drinking, I’m slowly reintroducing it into my life and I’m also realizing that my taste has changed slightly. I definitely prefer something a little bit drier, bolder and fruity. Winc recommended the 2018 Mercana Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina and it is the perfect red for me. The flavor is bold, just like I want and it’s a perfect balance of fruity and dry. I personally would love the marinate a steak in this wine with some soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, parsley and olive oil and I think it would be so delicious!

I also tried the Sauvetage Rose wine and that was also delicious. It was a drier pink wine which I loved. Usually I find rose wine too sweet and I never really like that. I think this would pair really nicely with a lobster roll in the summer, because #lovesummerhateeverythingelse amirite. It was so yummy and not too fruity either. I’m not a big fan of rose wine, but this one was definitely a big hit for me!

The two other wines I got were the Matchlock Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, CA and the Les Bobos Grenache from France. I’m looking forward to trying the Cabernet because one of my favorite wines of all time is the Paso Robles blend of Cabernet by Josh so it’ll be great to compare the two! I’ve also never had Grenache so that will be exciting to try something that is totally new for me.

If you are looking to try out some new wines for the fall and upcoming holiday season, I highly recommend checking out Winc! They have a great variety of wines to try and they make the experience so personalized. It’s definitely worth it to receive a box of wines that has been perfectly curated to your taste. Using this link here, you can get $22 off plus complimentary shipping on your order which comes out to 4 bottles of wine for just $39! It’s an amazing deal, so definitely be sure to check out Winc!

The Best Fall Going Out Outfit Ideas

I realized the other day that I post a lot of blog posts involving outfits for a date night, which means I never really cater to the single twenty-something ladies that read my blog. So I decided to share some outfits I would wear for a girls night out with my friends in the fall. I really had dinner or the bar scene in mind when curating these outfits, as well as the fact that my style is a little bit more grown up than it was 2.5 years ago when I was in college. So if you want to see what I’d wear out for a girls night out at 24 years old, keep on reading!

Outfit 1:

I really love wearing faux leather and maybe this is a little overboard, but I think it just looks so cool. I got these cropped faux leather pants at Target 2 years ago and they are the most comfortable and surprisingly warm pants I own! I linked a newer pair here. I paired it with a plain white cami from Express. This is the downtown cami that comes in tons of colors and is usually buy one get one 50% off. They are perfect for transitioning from day to night! Last but not least, my faux leather moto jacket (similar linked here) is from Nasty Gal and I basically only wear it if I’m going out to a bar cause it’s not super warm but super stylish. And of course, my shoes my favorites from Louise et Cie via Nordstrom.

Jacket: Nasty Gal / Top: Express / Pants: Target / Shoes: Louise et Cie

Outfit 2:

I wanted to try something kind of funky with this outfit so I took this lightweight leopard dress from Zara and tucked one side of it into a pair of faux leather paper bag shorts from Zara into it, both from about a year ago. Here are a few similar dresses, linked here and here. Similar shorts are linked here. I paired it with these OTK black suede boots from Goodnight Macaroon and I love the way it turned out! I think it’s a great outfit to experiment with and what’s a better time to experiment with your outfits than for a night out with your girls!

Outfit 3:

I thought it would be fun to also do a denim on denim look but spruce it up by wearing washed black denim and pairing knee high boots in a fun color. I got the skirt from American Eagle a few years ago (similar linked here) and the jacket is from Forever 21 (similar linked here) and it is genuinely one of my most worn jackets! The bodysuit is SUPER old from American Apparel and the boots are from Zara last year! The color I have is sold out but they come in tons of other colors and are linked here. I love this outfit because it plays with proportion and texture which is my two favorite things to do with my outfits.

Jacket: Forever 21 / Bodysuit: American Apparel / Skirt: American Eagle / Boots: Zara
Jacket: Forever 21 / Bodysuit: American Apparel / Skirt: American Eagle / Boots: Zara

Outfit 4:

For this last outfit, I went with the beautiful chocolate brown bodysuit from Abercrombie because 1) it’s BEAUTIFUL and 2) I wanted to show that you can wear brown and black together. It such a great piece to pair with ripped black jeans because the satin texture makes the brown appear a little richer and more dimensional than if it were a cotton bodysuit that appeared flat. Again, I paired it with my Louise et Cie heels and this super easy look is complete!

Things I Loved This Month: October 2019

October has been sort of a funky month for me, so I don’t really have a lot of favorites if we’re honest. I can say that this month went by really fast and had so many ups and downs that I’m very glad it’s finally over. Here are just a few of my new favorite things for this month!

1. Corduroy Mom Jeans

Last spring, I found white corduroy mom jeans from Topshop that I fell in love with. I wore them a ton because they are so nice and cozy, very comfortable and they go well with tons of outfits. This year, I found the same pair and decided I should get them in brown and also black! They are some of the best corduroy mom jeans I’ve found and I had to talk myself out of getting the pink also!

2. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I’ve mentioned this product in a few blog posts (My Skin Care Routine and my Sephora Haul) and I’ve really grown to love this product. I love the way my skin looks in the morning after I’ve used it and I think the overall health of my skin is much better because of it! It’s so light and not sticky. I am definitely going to repurchase this since I’m just about finished with my sample!

3. Citrus Defender @ Starbucks

I was feeling really sick earlier this month and was sort of unsure what to do about it. I saw that the Citrus Defender tea at Starbucks was a good alternative to the Medicine Ball tea and decided to try it. Lucky for me it’s packed out with vitamin C because it’s made with citrus tea and lemonade and it’s absolutely delicious. I’m not saying it cured me, but I was feeling 100% again within 2 days…just saying!

4. Everything Brown

Seriously, I love everything brown. I don’t know how many times I have to say it. I have about 4 brown sweaters now, a pair of corduroy pants, I’m on the hunt for chocolate brown loafers, I have a brown satin body suit, I have issues. Brown is my color for this season, and next, and probably the rest of my life. Highly recommend you try this out in a monochromatic look or in satin-y materials because it just is really beautiful!

5. Similarly, Everything Green

This month I also bought the most beautiful green shoes and I want to cry every time I look at them. They are so cute and comfortable and exactly what my closet needed. I also recently acquired a few green sweaters and found a gorgeous green plaid coat that I plan on buying soon. Not sure what is going on but these colors are making me so excited for fall and winter!

6. Louise et Cie Kota Heels

I’ve shared these shoes a few times on my instagram and they are just the best. A beautiful, classic heel with a super comfortable heel height that will last you for years to come. They are from Nordstrom and I bought them in white, black, and navy and I can’t get over them. A great shoe for day to night and just about any occasion.

Why I Stopped Drinking for a Month

Some of you may not know but for the month of October, I actually decided to take a break from drinking alcohol to give my body a rest. August and September had been such busy months and I spent a lot of time drinking socially with my friends and family to celebrate life events, the end of summer, birthdays, etc. By the time October rolled around, I was feeling really sluggish and just overall icky. I decided to stop drinking for about 30 days and see how I felt afterwards. Keep on reading to see what I learned from this experience!

First thing I learned is that I enjoy waking up and not being hungover. I woke up not hungover for majority of the week even when I was drinking because I really only drank Friday – Saturday and the occasional Sunday. However, I had a major appreciation for waking up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and feeling well rested and frankly, hydrated. It was not a new experience, but I definitely was much more appreciative of it.

Next thing I learned was that, during the week after a long day of work, I felt like I wanted a glass of wine about 2 days per week. I associated having a glass of wine after work with relaxing. It was my little treat for myself because during the day I really only drink water and coffee. But because I wanted to really stick with my plan, I switched out my glass of wine for some flavored sparkling water and, while it didn’t really do the trick, it was enough to hold me over on the days I really felt I needed something special.

Next thing I learned is that, I definitely had gained weight from drinking so often. In the last month, I really haven’t worked out much, but in general I feel like I like the way I look a little bit better. My tummy is a bit flatter and not bloated very often and maybe it has nothing to do with drinking, but that’s what I’m going to attribute it to.

I also learned that, I can’t always blame drinking for waking up feeling hungover. I distinctly noticed that there were a few mornings that I woke up feeling hungover, when I hadn’t even drank anything but water the previous day. Maybe it wasn’t enough water, but I certainly didn’t sneak in any alcohol. I woke up with headaches and a feeling of dehydration on a few days, so that’s something I need to be more conscious of also!

Lastly, when I went back to drinking (on 2 occasions for a birthday and Halloween), I did not feel good afterwards. One day, I drank only wine and the other day I drank rum & coke and both were not kind to me. To be honest, it’s enough to make me want to take a permanent break from hard liquor and stick with beer and wine. But for social reasons, it’s always nice to have the option of saying, “Hey, let’s grab a drink!” So will I stop drinking for good? The answer is a hard no, of course not! Will I be more careful about what and how much I drink, absolutely. I prefer to feel my best and sometimes, it’s just not worth the trouble!
