How to Wear Any Color This Spring!

How to Wear Any Color This Spring!

There’s a cute song on Tik Tok that starts off saying, “I could be red or I could be yellow…” and you go through and style each color based on the song. Well, I recently decided to take on this challenge and style each color of this song for this blog post. I’ve written tons of blogs about wearing color for spring and how to style outfits using all kinds of colors. It’s one of my favorite ways to dress, so this challenge was honestly right up my alley. Keep on reading to see what I came up with for this challenge! You can also follow me on Tik Tok to see the cute video I made to go with it by searching for Karen Mauritzen in the app! I will also link as many of these items as possible!

I could be red…

There is something so easy about wearing a red sweater with blue jeans. I’m not sure why but it always reminds me of being a child, because I feel like my mom always dressed me like this as a kid. That’s probably just a personal issue. Anyway, I love cardigans as tops, so I wore this old red cardigan from Target with my tried and true mid blue wash mom jeans from Topshop. I paired these tan woven mules from Target and there you have it!

Or I could be yellow…

This one reminds me of the show Arthur because he always wore a yellow sweater and blue jeans, but again that’s another personal problem. This yellow cardigan is from Abercrombie and one of my favorites this season! I paired it with the same mom jeans and my new pair of all white Adidas Stan Smith sneakers.

I could be blue…

Blue has definitely become my favorite color to style this season and I am showing no signs of slowing down. I paired this medium blue lace cami bodysuit with the same pair of mom jeans and this pair of white croc print Steve Madden sandals. I got these sandals a few weeks ago and they have already become a staple in my wardrobe (even though I haven’t left my house in 6+ weeks).

Or I could be purple…

This one was the hardest for me to style because although I love purple, I just don’t own a lot of it. Luckily, my interest in the color lilac started in the spring of 2019 when I got this pretty lilac cardigan from Target! This year I followed up and got this pretty lacey bodysuit from Abercrombie. I paired this look with some light wash mom jeans from Abercrombie (similar) and the same tan woven mules from Target.

I could be green…

Green is another color that I love but just don’t have a lot of. However, a few months ago, I did find this super cute puff sleeve top from Abercrombie and immediately knew it was perfect for me. The fit is so flattering, so it’s one of my best purchases this year without a doubt! I paired it with these really thick black straight leg jeans from Topshop and the same Steve Madden Issy sandals, but in black!

Or pink…

As much as I love pink, I actually don’t have very many pink tops. I got this one from Something Navy x Nordstrom in the spring of 2019 also because I loved the big buttons and was trying improve my work wardrobe a bit. I paired this one with the same Abercrombie mom jeans (similar) and some velvet pink Gucci mules I got in 2019 also.

Or black…

The black outfit was hard because I have SO many black pieces! I couldn’t decide what to choose! Ultimately, I went with a dress for my last two outfits since I hadn’t featured any yet. This black cami dress is from Abercrombie and a wardrobe staple in my opinion because it’s so versatile. This black denim jacket is old from Forever 21, but here’s a similar one from Target. For my shoes, it’s the same black Steve Madden sandals!

Or white! I could be any color you like!

For my last look, I went with this super feminine white ruched top dress from Abercrombie. I paired a white cardigan from Abercrombie over the top for an extra layer and the same white croc sandals from Steve Madden. This one is definitely my favorite!

Four Ways to Wear Color in the Winter

Four Ways to Wear Color in the Winter

If you’ve followed along with me on here for a while, you’ll know that I am a huge fan of wearing color, color-blocking, and monochromatic looks. I try to wear the same color palette often because I think it’s a bold way to style some of your favorite pieces. Winter is not typically associated with bright colors, but on recent runways, color is everywhere. I personally love bright jewel tones as well as the light and airy pastels colors that are coming for the spring. I think both are interesting to style for the winter, but they work surprisingly well. So today, I thought I’d try my hand at styling some colorful outfits. Let me know how you think I did in the comments! I am also linking as many items as possible here so you can try them out yourself!

Outfit #1

You all know pink is my favorite color to style so it wouldn’t be a blog post about color without at least one pink outfit. I found these super stylish pink corduroy pants at Target a few weeks ago and fell in love. Considering the bright color, they are extremely versatile because of the shape. I found this dusty pink Something Navy sweater on sale at Nordstrom (similar) and thought it would be perfect to pair with these bright pants. I also love to pair pink with colors like purple and red so that’s exactly what I did here. I got these Charles by Charles David purple suede heels (similar) at Nordstrom about a year ago and love them so much. I thought they were a perfect piece to pair with this outfit.

Outfit #2

I am recently trying to add some blue pieces to my wardrobe because as much as I love navy blue, it was the only form of blue I had in my closet other than denim. I find blue to be a really beautiful color lately. It was something I originally never really thought would work well on my skin tone, but I think it’s got so many versatile tones that it can work well for anyone! I found this really pretty muted blue cardigan at Target and knew I had to have it (especially at it’s $12.99 price tag at the time). It has since returned to full price, but it’s such a good piece that it’s worth the extra $12. These white slouchy jeans from Zara were also added to my cart during Zara’s sale a few weeks ago and have since sold out but I’m featuring them because it’s a style that they bring back often! Adding brown accessories keeps the colors from being overwhelming and a little bit more grounded so I added this belt from Urban Outfitters and my favorite loafers from Target.

Outfit #3

One color combo that I’ve been really into, but never quite executed was wearing green and navy blue. They are pretty close together on the color wheel so they can be hard to style together, but I think when you find the right shades, they can look really beautiful. I found this bright kelly green turtleneck (similar) from Something Navy last year and thought it was such a pretty color. Now I see similar colors everywhere and have truly fallen for the color green. I think when paired with plain washed black straight leg jeans and some classic navy suede heels (similar), it’s a really easy look for a date night or even work depending on your dress code. I can’t wait to try styling these colors together more often!

Outfit #4

I have recently been really into quarter/half zip sweaters and I saw this pretty lilac one at American Eagle and knew I had to have it. The very first time I saw it, it was actually sold out in just about every size! But I waited patiently and checked back a few weeks later and to my shock, it was restocked with full sizes so I knew right away it was a sign to order it. I’m loving these zip up style sweaters because they are a fun take on a regular pullover sweater. A really long time ago I saw a blogger on Instagram @walkinwonderland share a photo of her wearing a pretty lavender sweatshirt with light wash jeans and brown tall boots and thought it was an interesting color palette to wear so I decided to recreate it here. I’m wearing some light wash distressed mom jeans from Abercrombie and my Sam Edelman Lindsey boots to complete the look.
